Instructions updated August 5, 2021
Please read carefully:
**The most important change: in order to hold the event, we cannot interfere with normal traffic flow. There will be no police or traffic controls. Riders are on their own on open roads. I’m hoping that between 5:30-6:30am on a Saturday morning it should be quiet. This is obviously not ideal but it’s the only option. This event is sanctioned by USA Cycling.
-
Given the current circumstances we are very fortunate to be able to hold this race. Please be respectful of the Koolauloa community and those who are not comfortable attending.
-
Koolauloa residents race for free.
-
Packet pickup will be outside/curbside at Hawaii Triathlon Center TBD. Athletes may only register online at www.hitricenter.com. There will be no race day packet pickup or check in. We will just start the race with the first rider at 5:30am
-
Rider start list and start times will be posted before the day of the race.
-
Rider briefing will be held on Friday, June 5 at 6:00pm via Facebook Live on the Hawaii Triathlon Center Facebook page.
-
Postrace meeting and awards will be held at 12pm on Saturday, June 6 via Facebook Live through Hawaii Triathlon Center’s Facebook page. Awards will be mailed out Monday after the race.
-
Start time updated to 5:30am and riders will be sent off in 1-minute intervals.
-
There will be a starter standing approximately 10 feet to the side of the starting line, no bike holders.
-
You will have a starting appointment time. There will be no “caller” to make sure you are in the right place and on time. You must queue up at draft legal distance apart, lines will be taped on the ground to follow.
-
Please park your vehicle at least 6 feet apart and maintain appropriate distance while warming up. There is plenty of road shoulder space in that area.
-
Bib numbers are required. You will be timed and results will be published.
-
Please arrive on your own or in your quarantine household only, warmup on your own, and leave as soon as you’ve finished and cooled down. Please do not ride back through the finish line once you have finished.
-
This is an individual time trial. Cyclists are to maintain more than 12 meters between each other except when passing. All passes must be completed within 30 seconds and riders must make immediate progress out of the draft zone once passed.
-
Fixed gear bikes must have a working brake
-
Road / Merckx category rules: no aerobars, no aero helmets, no wheels deeper than 40mm.
-
Junior riders under 15 years old will complete the 20k course. **ALL JUNIOR RIDERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AN ADULT ESCORT FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF THEIR RIDE DUE TO THE OPEN ROADS**
-
Race number bib used for timing purposes. No bib number, no time. Please attach number upright and centered in low back. Watch any UCI pro road race and copy that. Do not rotate 90*, keep upright.
Course information:
This is a 40km individual time trial. Riders will start at Malaekahana Beach Park and head towards Kualoa Ranch to Kalaeoio Beach Park (between Kaaawa Elementary School and Kualoa Ranch’s “surf gate”) on Kamehameha Highway where riders will u-turn and come back along the same route (20km out, then back). No drafting is allowed in any category. Riders must maintain a distance of 12 meters (approximately 15 bike lengths) at all times unless passing. Riders have 30 seconds, or 500 meters, to complete a pass. Once passed, the overtaken rider must immediately make rearward progress out of the draft zone (distance of 12 meters). Race map here!
